Bock Casemates

Kilometres of tunnels carved into the rock beneath the old fortress city.

The casemates were dug from 1644 under Spanish rule and extended by the Austrians in the 18th century. About 17 km of the original 23 km of galleries survive. They are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site 'City of Luxembourg: its Old Quarters and Fortifications' (1994), and the Bock rock above gives one of the best views over the Alzette valley.

💡 Open seasonally. It is cool inside, so bring a jacket.
