Schengen and the European Museum

The Moselle village that gave its name to border-free travel in Europe.

The Schengen Agreement was signed on 14 June 1985 on a riverboat on the Moselle at Schengen, where Luxembourg, France and Germany meet. The European Museum explains how open borders came about, and monuments along the river celebrate it. Vineyards climb the slopes all around.

💡 Schengen is a good start for a walk or bike ride along the Moselle wine route.
